The Hot Chick'n is a limited-time version of Shake Shack's Chick'n Shack. It's called "Hot Chick'n" because you can't trademark a sandwich called "Hot Chicken". So don't tryThe flying buffalo is a spice lawyer, not a trademark lawyer.. It'sthe sandwich, not the legal advice in Shake Shacks nationwide, but I tried it at their innovation kitchen, because that's how dedicated I am. Apropos of nothing, it's the closest Shake Shack to my work.

The hot part of the Hot Chick'n sandwich is a dry spice mix. The chick'n part of the Hot Chick'n sandwich is a chicken breast, breaded and fried. The sandwich part of the Hot Chick'n sandwich is...a conundrum. Maybe the sandwich is only a sandwich when all the parts come together, like a hot dog, which is definitely a sandwichDon't email me about this.. Whatever a sandwich comprises, this sandwich has a potato bun.

Shake Shack's Hot Chick'n sandwich

Longtime readers will recall my position that dark meat is superior to white, for its resistance to drying and additional flavor. Even though it's white meat, Shake Shack did well: the breast was still tender. The breading was decently crunchy, as you'd expect from a chain that already serves fried chicken sandwiches. The bun was tosted, which is a nice touch. If you like their Chick'n Shack, and want heat, you'll like this. If you don't like their Chick'n Shack, they have burgers or something. Also, maybe try another restaurant; I don't control your life.

It normally comes with a pickle. Mine did not. Pickles are an abomination onto the LordGherkin 27:42.

There are two spice levels to choose from: "hot" and "even hotter". The spice level wasn't too much, even though I chose "even hotter". The heat comes from a dry spice mix, not a wet sauce, so the heat isn't immediate.

a spice warning!

It could've used some sort of sauce. The coleslaw added a little bit of flavor, but I'm not sure it added much. More creaminess would have helped.

Overall rating: a proper shack has a roof and four walls. This sandwich has a great roof, but is missing a wall. 7/10.
